New Pictures - November 2003

Bryan Beller, Me, Mike Keneally

This was taken November 6/03, from an amazing acoustic showcase by Mike Keneally and bassist Bryan Beller. I have been a fan of Mike's for many years. He started off being Zappa's "stunt guitar player" back on his final tour of 1988. Since then, Mike has gone on to release almost 10 solo albums, entirely indie. I've had the pleasure of purchasing his albums direct from his website, which really makes me happy.

Mike and Bryan were up in my area supporting Taylor Guitars, so although they both kick major butt on electric instruments, they played acoustically.

Good golly... it was the most impressive show I've seen in years!  They played some of the most unbearably complicated stuff, and made it look like any hack could pull it off!  I hate them!  They concluded the night with a request of mine "Spearmint Pup" off of Mike's "Hat" album, and then they sequed into "Inca Roads," quite possibly the most amazing piece of showmanship Frank Zappa ever composed. To hear this 9 minute note-fest played on an acoustic and a bass was enough to make me lactate!! (Perhaps I'm being vulgar, but it WAS that good!)

Check out Mike's website,  and do yourself a favour - buy his albums! His "Dancing" album is my favorite, but they are all impressive beyond belief!

something for the olde folkes!!

Get back to the topper-most!
